TOP 3 IN THE WORLD – GOING OVER 30 KNOTS ON A FOIL IN LAKE GARDA!

From Tenerife it was on to the beautiful Lake Garda for the next block of training! The focus was foiling – it’s not been my first love, as a true “fin addict” but its a major part of the game now and something I have embraced!

In Garda I took delivery of my foil specific “WARP_FOIL” sails by Duotone, and along with a new GPS – the Vertix 2 by COROS, it was time to really push and see how fast I could go! The true measurement of speed is done by speed over a time or speed over a distance – 2 second, 10 second, 100m, 250m, 500m… On day 1 with the 6.9 WARP_FOIL straight out of the bag and F4 560 FW I broke all of my previous records with a 28.5 knots 2 second max speed! Thinking 30 knots was still a way off, I posted about it on social media, only to go and do 30.25 knots peak the next day on the WARP_FOIL 5.9 and F4 430 FW!!

Above you have the current virtual World Speed Ladder from gps-foilsurfing.com where this last month’s efforts have shot me right up the rankings – its only a bit of fun and nothing official but these are some of the fastest girls in the World on foils and I’ve gone from being pretty far off the mark to right in the thick of it! A combination of putting in the hours over the winter and being on the right equipment for the job has made a huge difference and I’m getting more and more excited to get on the race course!

PERSONAL NEWS

In 2020, mid pandemic and with lots of barriers to overcome, I finished my degree in BSc Sports Performance from the University of Bath and finally, this weekend (almost 2 years later) I was able to graduate! It was a wonderful weekend in Bath, the sun shone and it was great to be reunited with all my old course mates. I also got to go and see my favourite football team play (Manchester City) and unlike midweek, they didn’t let me down putting 5 goals past Newcastle to almost seal the Premier League Champions!

WHAT’S NEXT?

Competition time is nearly here! I have another 2 week training block in Garda, with teammate Jordy Vonk who has been helping me a lot with learning how to test the equipment and also winter training partner Blanca Alabau (3rd Place PWA Foil 2021). We push each other a lot so I’m really excited to see how the next 2 weeks progress before we head to Defi Wind in the South of France for a long-distance competition! Blanca won this race last year so I’m excited to be training with her in the run up and get as ready for it as possible
